Open Source Segway

This "down under" project is being presented at a Linux conference at University of New South Wales this week (http://lca2007.linux.org.au/talk/185 ). It builds on Trevor's code and uses off the shelf parts (though no mention of how much it costs) and focuses on ease of construction. I liked Trevor's write up since it's more detailed and you actually have a chance of reproducing it if you have access to a metal shop. Check out this link for a bunch of pictures

I'll be the first to say that there's nothing fault tolerant about this design. But I do like the compactness. With a little fiddling, you might even be able to flatten out the platform, make the wheels easily detach and store everything in a suitcase for travel, eh? I'd think weight would still be an issue...from what I see in the picture, it's got way more than 50 pounds.
